Peepul - The Fig Tree
( Ficus religiosa )
Also called bo tree. The peepul ( or peepal ) is the first-known depicted tree in India. The peepal has a religious significance in India. It is worshiped by the hindus. The peepal is used extensively in Ayurveda. Its bark yields the tannin used in treating leather. Its leaves, when heated in ghee, are applied to cure wounds. It is regarded as sacred by Buddhists.
