Harike
10:28 PM
Harike is a small town of Amritsar. Harike has a strategic importance which many of the countrymen may not be aware of. River Beas merges with Sutlej at Harike. The combined sutlej enters Pakistan from here. As per Indus Water Treaty, Sutlej, Beas and Ravi are allocated to India whereas Indus, Jhelum and Chenab for Pakistan. Harike barrage is responsible for controlling flow of water into Pakistan. Water from here is diverted to various cities of punjab, haryana and rajasthan through canals, much to properity of the nation.
Standing on barrage, it is amazing to see the river in fully glory on Indian side and almost dry and sandy on the other side. There is small police checkpost at the roadside of barrage to keep an eye on.
It was a foggy drive in the morning. By the time I reached Harike, the sun has overpowered fog and I saw this board ( bit interesting ) with a local Punjab Roadways bus.
Checkout Google Maps ( notice greenery either side).
Shot just after crossing the barrage on National Highway 15.
Update : Here are the images.
